The MHC Trails Committee

Holds monthly meetings (except June, July, August, November and December) to discuss trails programs, idea, issues and events.

Star Provides Grants to member organizations to help with projects  Application

Star Helps plan and present the Annual Fall Trail Seminar and Ride with each year’s co-host organization.

Star Awards trail mileage patches and mile bars for trails miles accumulated by horsemen riding or driving on trails, roads, etc.,
in Michigan (Scroll Down)

StarHandles the dispensing of Trail Grants to MHC member trail organizations for trail improvements and maintenance on existing, or new,
equestrian trails in Michigan.

Star Partners with, other trails and greenway organizations, including Michigan Mountain Bike Association, Rails to Trails Conservancy
(and local rail-trails support groups in Michigan), Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and many other local organizations and groups
to advance common goals and interests.

Star Provides trail information on Michigan equestrian trails, with plans to include equestrian trail locations and information on the MHC web site.

Star Tracks regional and national trail seminars and programs, sending delegates to these whenever possible.

Star Works with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service on trail issues, trail programs and trail development,
and serves as resource for government on trail issues affecting equestrians.

Star Educates the equestrian community on trail issues and mounts grass roots campaigns in support of equestrian trails.

Star Provides a forum for sharing trail problems and successes for Michigan trail Riders.

  You, too, can become a member of the MHC Trail Riders Committee and share in advancing and protecting Michigan’s Equestrian Trails.

Horsehoe Shown on the left is the Patch which may be earned in the Michigan Horse Council Trail Riders Committee Equine Trail Miles Program. Here's how the program works:

  1. No age limit.
  2. No time limit, Michigan Equine Trail Miles accumulate any time you ride or drive an equine (horse, pony, mule).
  3. Log your own Michigan Equine Trail Miles on the honor system ~ Application/ log sheet available here.
  4. Unlimited choice of mounts (one or more than one), mileage accumulates on rider/driver
  5. A patch will be awarded for the first 250 equine trail miles ridden or driven.
  6. Mileage bars awarded for each additional 500 miles ridden or driven.

  1. Register with MHC Trail Riders Committee ~ Application/ log sheet available here.
  2. Start logging your Michigan Equine Trail Miles.
  3. Mileage logs begin date registration is received
