Through the work and collaboration of Putnam Township and Mike Levine Lakelands Trail a "Trail Etiquette" document has been developed to provide a better experience for all trailer riders choosing to utilize these trails.
The improvements also allow for the trails to be used as a multi-use trail. This allows for both non-motorized trail users and horse enthusiasts to utilize the space at the same time while providing a safe and enjoyable experience for both parties.

USFS Public Meeting
Tuesday April 16th, 2019, 6pm
Mathias Township Community Building
Co Hwy 103
Trenary, MI 49891
To further discuss management of the Bay de Noc-Grand Island trail where a bike and horse time-sharing agreement is being considered (horses use the trail one day, bikes the next). If you sent a letter with our first request and received a letter back from the USFS, it stated a proposal has not been issued to change the management of this trail. At this time, bikes are allowed on the trail but the trail is not managed for bikes.
A proposal has now been issued by Karen Bahrman, <firstname.lastname@example.org>, “We are proposing that the GIBDN trail be managed for horses and hikers only in the non-winter months, and that it be posted closed to bikers.”
Please send letters in support of this proposal to email@example.com, we need many letters and we need large attendance at the meeting. Please share with equestrians across the state. Thank you for your help in protecting equestrian trails!
