Julie Vruggink is the Program Manager at Lansing School Districts’ Equine Center for Learning at Beekman, (formerly known as Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center).
Julie is married, has two sons and lives in DeWitt, Michigan.
Prior to her work at Beekman, she was a Learning and Education Specialist and a Human Resources Manager for 25 years.
Her experience with horses began as a child on a Morgan horse farm. The owners of the farm allowed her to groom and ride their prize show horses, which is where her heart became attached.
Julie began volunteering at Beekman, as a groom and lesson lead in 2001. Returning in 2019 as Program Manager.
Julie’s profound love of horses and kids has built a drive in her, to connect the two beings. Equine assisted Learning and Therapy are at the heart of her work, as well as creating opportunities for youth who do not have access to ride or interact with horses, much like her own experience.
Julie is also a certified trainer with Partners in Leadership and is building programs at ECL, for preschoolers through highschool, utilizing the herd of miniature and full-size horses.
Julie also enjoys spending time with her family, trail riding with her horse, Cheyenne, gardening and cooking.
Julie hopes to serve the Michigan Horse Council and the “equine family” well, during her appointment as youth chair.
